Q Morrow NYC - Guitarist and Composer
"You're just an all around dude then!" exclaimed the cowboy with the mobile BBQ trailer. I had just finished explaining to him, in a cloud of mesquite smoke, how it had come to be that I had wound up in rural California playing a concert of Brazilian music that night. My journey had taken me from Idaho to California, Texas to the Caribbean, Europe to India, South America back to California again over the course of ten years, all the while learning about the culture, language, and especially music of the places I had been.
The music on my albums is an organic amalgamation of the diverse influences that have become rooted in me along the way. - Q -
Well schooled in many styles of music and guitar technique, Q is a rare breed of guitarist who feels at home in any style of music, on any guitar. Having studied extensively jazz, funk, pop, rock, and classical guitar here in the far West, Carnatic (South Indian Classical) and Hindustani music in the far East, Brazilian and Cuban music on the side, it would be no stretch to say that his versatility is his strongest point.
What sets him apart from other world musicians is the fact that his interest in music is spiritual, not technical. To Q, music is an offering. Growing up in Caldwell, Idaho, a suburb of Boise provided Q with ample practice time. He honed his early songwriting skills with early bands before moving to California at age 18. There he studied music in Santa Cruz at Cabrillo College before attending the prestigious University of North Texas's Jazz Program in 2003. He then spent a year studying Carnatic music in Bangalore, India with Veena Maestro Jayanthi Kumaresh.
Q has settled in Brooklyn, NY and is an active part of the rich music scene.
